Gippsland brews well above its weight. You can spend a whole weekend chasing pints across the region, from a heritage bank in a tiny village to a former butter factory on the coast. Here are the local breweries worth planning a drive around.
- 1
Grand Ridge Brewery ↗
Mirboo North · South Gippsland
The grandfather of Gippsland beer, pouring award-winning ales in a country pub setting since the late 80s.
Tip: The Moonshine strong ale is not for the faint-hearted.
- 2
Good Land Brewing Co ↗
Traralgon · Latrobe
The Latrobe Valley’s own, a family-run production brewery and 12-tap tasting bar on the eastern edge of Traralgon, started by a brewer who learned the craft in Edinburgh and the Netherlands.
Tip: House-made pretzels and a Good Lager, or grab a paddle across the 12 taps.
- 3
Sailors Grave Brewing ↗
Orbost · East Gippsland
Wild-fermented and coastal-inspired beers made in an old butter factory, often using local fruit and seaweed.
Tip: Keep an eye out for the seasonal brews made with local fruit or seaweed.
- 4
Loch Brewery & Distillery ↗
Loch · South Gippsland
Hand-made ales and spirits poured inside a restored 1880s bank in the village of Loch.
Tip: They distil too, so ask about the gin while you are there.
- 5
Bullant Brewery
Bruthen · East Gippsland
A friendly family brewpub in the East Gippsland hills with a wood-fired kitchen to match the beer.
Tip: Pair a pint with a wood-fired pizza.
- 6
Maffco Brewery and Distillery
Maffra · Wellington
A brewery and distillery in Maffra with a big beer hall and a proper kitchen.
Tip: Come hungry, the beer hall does a full feed.
- 7
Burra Brewing Co
Korumburra · South Gippsland
A Korumburra brewery turning out a range of easy-drinking craft beers.
- 8
Gurneys’ Cidery
Foster · South Gippsland
An orchard, cidery and brewery rolled into one near Foster, with a cider bar in the trees.
